Become a Certified Universal Tao Instructor

UT Body, Mind, Spirit Path

The UT Path is based on building a strong foundation of basic core practices. Those core practices provide the possibility to specialize in one or several UT Branches.

Tao Energy Basics builds the Basic Foundation for all the Branches. All students need to study Tao Energy Basics and then may choose to specialize or upgrade in one or more fields.

Global UT System

An experienced faculty, a well-grounded system and a globally renowned network of practitioners and instructors support you. In respect for our founder Grandmaster Mantak Chia, we highly recommend that you study and train with him whenever there is a possibility for you to do so.

Global Network

The UT Foundation with its network of Council of 9, Global Branch Leaders, Country Coordinators and Country Organizations or Associations are passing down the educational curriculums in alignment with the UT System principles.

Curriculums

Within the UT System, there are 5 Branches with their specific curriculums in how to develop mastery within the Branch. Business support and mentorship will be provided through local organizations and their websites. All prerequisites for becoming a UHT Instructor can be found on our UHT Foundation and affiliated websites.

Certification in Tao Energy Basics Branch with Core Practices

For being certified as a UT Associate Instructor and UT Certified Instructor the following training hours are needed:

Associate Instructor Training

Total Training 130 Hours

PREREQUISITE TRAINING includes 120 hours preparatory training before coming to Associate Instructor training. Any level of instructor may facilitate this training.Hours may include classes, workshops, retreats, or private instruction. Related experience will be evaluated and the Senior Instructor will consider exceptions.

Only students that are taught by Mantak Chia and/or certified teachers of Mantak Chia get hours towards certification in Master Chia’s system. 

  • CORE PRACTICES The candidate must be well versed in Tao Energy Basics (Inner Smile, Microcosmic Orbit, Healing Sounds, Chi Self-Massage), Iron Shirt (Tree & Turtle specifically), 5 Simple Qigong Warm-ups (Crane & Turtle Neck, Spinal Cord Breathing, Shaking, Sitting Meditation Warm-ups).
  • ADDITIONAL PRACTICES The remaining hours may include Healing Love, Iron Shirt II & III, Fusion I, Tai Chi I, Tan Tien Qigong, or Tao Yin.

LETTER FROM TRAINEE– Please send a letter about why you want to become an associate instructor.

PERSONAL PRACTICE in the UHT Basic Practices for a minimum of 6 months to one year is recommended.

After fulfilling the above, one can attend an Associate Instructor Training which includes the following:

  1. 10 hours with a Senior Instructor
  2. Interview & Evaluation with a UHT Senior Instructor & a UHT Certified Instructor. Evaluation Subjects: Theory & Practice of Warm-ups, Inner Smile, 6 Healing Sounds, Microcosmic Orbit & Chi Self-Massage.
  3. After certification, Associate Instructors are certified to teach the 6 Healing Sounds, Microcosmic Orbit Meditation, Chi Self-Massage, and Simple Qigong.
  4. They can upgrade to Certified Instructor with an additional 120 workshops hours in Basics and Fusion after teaching a minimum  of 6 months

Certified Instructor Training – Gradual Path

Total Training  – 260 hours.

The Gradual Path  is to Upgrade from Associate Instructor to  Certified Instructor.

PREREQUISITES – One must already have met all the requirements and qualified as an Associate Instructor including 130 total hours (120 hours of prerequisite training and 10 more hours of Associate Instructor certification training, see here).

Only students that are taught by Mantak Chia and/or certified teachers of Mantak Chia get hours towards certification in Master Chia’s system. 

PERSONAL PRACTICE REQUIREMENT – A minimum of 6 months of personal practice and/or teaching experience is required after becoming an Associate Instructor. The evaluating Senior Instructor will consider exceptions or experience in related studies.

UPGRADE TRAINING REQUIREMENTS – An additional 120 hours is required for the upgrade. When added to the 130 hour Associate Instructor Prerequisites, the training totals 250 hours.

TRAINING SUBJECTS– The additional 120 training hours include the following:

Minimum 20 hours with Mantak Chia in:

  • Tao Energy Basics
  • Fusion of the 5 Elements Meditation

Remaining hours can be with Mantak Chia or any Certified or Senior Instructor in any of the UHT courses.

LETTER FROM ASSOCIATE INSTRUCTOR – Please send a letter expressing your desire to upgrade and include your teaching plans with a course outline.

INTERVIEW/TEST BY UT SENIOR INSTRUCTOR & UT INSTRUCTOR After fulfilling the above, you are eligible to attend a 10 hour Evaluation Training with a Senior Instructor Level 2. You will also need to present  9 UHT Case Study Forms for students who have studied the Basics –  Inner Smile, Microcosmic Orbit and /6 Healing Sounds.

Since you have already passed your Associate Instructor Evaluation, you will not be retested in those practices. For Instructor Certification, your grounding will be tested in Iron Shirt (Tree, Urn, & Turtle).

You are eligible to upgrade in these areas after becoming a Certified Instructor:

  • Iron Shirt I, II, III
  • Healing Love (Certification in Iron Shirt 1 is required)
  • Tan Tien Chi Kung, Tao Yin, Tai Chi I, II, III
  • Fusion I,II,III and to all the higher practices such as Kan & Li etc.

If you are upgrading in Iron Shirt (all 6 postures), Healing Love, Tao Yin and/or Tai Chi, you will be tested on these.  There will be a fee for both the testing and the new certificate.

 

Direct Path – Intensive Instructor Training

Total Training – 260 hours

This path does not require one to become an Associate Instructor but it has higher prerequisites: one year of practice including 100 hours of prerequisite training.

PREREQUISITES – 100 hours of preparatory training may be facilitated by any level of instructor. Hours may include week-long retreats, weekend workshops, classes or private instruction.

Only students that are taught by Mantak Chia and/or certified teachers of Mantak Chia get hours towards certification in Master Chia’s system. 

A minimum of 40 hours needs to be in Core Subjects:

  • Tao Energy Basics (minimum 16 hours)
  • Iron Shirt (minimum 8 hours)
  • Healing Love (minimum 16 hours) 

PERSONAL PRACTICE REQUIREMENT – A minimum of 1 year in the UT Prerequisites and Supportive Practices (daily) is strongly recommended before attending an instructor training. A solid practice of the UT Basics builds the foundation for instructor’s holistic development within the UT system.

TRAINING SUBJECTS –The 160 training hours are acquired in the following way:

80 hours in Core Subjects:

  • Tao Energy Basics (minimum 40 hours)
  • Iron Shirt (minimum 15 hours)
  • Healing Love (minimum 25 hours) 

60 hours in one or more of these Branch Practices:

  • Tai Chi I, II
  • Tao Yin
  • Fusion I, II, III
  • Iron Shirt II, III

20 hours in any of these additional practices: Tan Tien Qigong, Qigong Warm-ups, Five Elements Theory & Application, Primordial Qigong, Inner Alchemy Astrology,Iron Shirt III, Buddha Palm, Wisdom Qigong, Elixir Qigong, Stem Cell Qigong, Deep Healing Qi Gong, 8 Extraordinary Qigong, Chi Nei Tsang I, Cosmic Healing I

Please note: Those who choose this path and participate in the 6-day 2024 NYC training with Master Chia will receive 42 hours.
